International Lessons in Developing a Highly Skilled Workforce

The LEPC/CLPE, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce and local business owner Uli Walther, hosted a series of engagement sessions on March 7th - 9th, 2018, which focused on the potential for adopting new strategies and best practices that have been successfully implemented in the apprenticeship system in other jurisdictions.

For over 100 years, the dual-system apprenticeship model that has been implemented in Germany has proven to be a successful approach to reduce skills shortages in the workforce. This system splits education between the workplace and the classroom, with a high degree of involvement from employers. German Vocational and Education experts, Lothar Sprenzel and Karsten Pabst, joined us over the three days to lend their expertise and help further the dialogue surrounding integrated learning.

A Public Luncheon and Open Forum took place on March 8th. Watch the presentations and Q & A period below.
