Subject Matter Working Groups

As part of the pilot project the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities requested that the district of Thunder Bay Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC) form Subject Matter Working Groups (SMWG). The purpose of the SMWG is to provide a more focused and in depth discussion regarding specific local labour market issues or subject areas. For examples of the work being carried out, check our Projects page. The working groups include people from:

Industry Engagement: industry, labour, and community representatives.

Service Planning: service providers, network representatives and local advocacy group.

Intergovernmental/Inter-Ministerial: municipal, provincial, and federal government departments and ministries that deliver services in the community.

The SMWGs have made a valuable contribution to the discussions regarding the opportunities and challenges in the labour market. The role of the SMWG will continue to evolve as the project moves forward. The current Subject Matter Working Groups are:

  • Aboriginal Peoples and Communities
  • Service Providers
  • Workers in Transition
  • Youth
  • Employment Plus Network
  • Apprenticeship Focus Group
  • Intergovernmental/Inter-Ministerial
  • Labour Market Information and Data
  • Newcomers
  • Sectors of the Economy
